after you’ve spent your dough
When the registers been fed,
They just want you to go

Record Store Employees,
they’re very polite,
just as long as you get out of their line of sight
I snidely say “you’re welcome“, they just look up and stare

They obey what’s in fashion
They know ‘bout papers and pipes
In their promotional T-shirts,
they’re such stereotypes

Record Store Employees,
they think they’re so hot
After all, they got the job that you never got
You’ll never hear this song
played in their store for long

I called up the record store today
to see if they had the new LP by Eydie Gormé
The record store employee said they did
When she said that, I really flipped my lid
So I walked the mile to the record store
When I got there, she said that they don’t got it no more

So I said, “Hey! You told me on the phone
you had that new record, dear.”
The she said, “You know, we don’t have time to check.
I’m just one of many
Stupid people working here”
(She’s got an IQ of 34)
“And by the way, don’t call me ‘dear’.”
(put her to work in the record store)
Chances are she only got the job
‘cause the store’s owned by her Uncle Bob
Stupid people have their faults,
and their waltz

They try to pretend like they know their stuff
But sooner or later, I’ll call their bluff
They’re bound and determined
to treat you like vermin
They’re not gonna take any guff

Now you’ve heard all about it,
all the crap I went through
And I wouldn’t even doubt it,
to hear it happened to you

Never again do I have to tell my sad, sad story
The record store has closed and faded into glory
It feels so good to know they never will again annoy me
And down at 7-Eleven, there’s a new employee
